Myrrhbearers

The Holy Order of the Myrrh Bearers is a Youth Ministry Program of St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, open to all girls in the Sunday School Program from grades 3-12. The Order is based on the account in the Gospels of the women disciples and followers of the Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ who ministered to His needs and went to anoint His body with myrrh after His burial (Mark 15:43-16:8; Matthew 27:55-56; John 19:38-20:18). These women were faithful to Jesus to the end and were the first witnesses of the Resurrection. They are identified in the Bible as: Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome. The Order also represents the five wise virgins (Matthew 25:1-13) who were prepared to meet the bridegroom because they had oil for their lamps. Serving as a Myrrhbearer is a great opportunity for the young ladies of our community to be an important part of the Holy Week services and to serve our Lord.

Interested young ladies are invited to contact Deborah Korakis at (310)530-7394 or Zoi White at (310)541-2561 or after the Divine Liturgy during coffee hour and signup to participate in Holy Week services and other services as requested by Father Michael Courey.

The third Sunday of Pascha is known as the Sunday of the Myrrhbearers.
